What are we going to give away next?
Let’s be honest with ourselves, we are not doing a great job of BMS cyber security.
I created this video because I have a consulting issue. I am creating BMS upgrade specifications, but the majority of BMS companies do not have an end-to-end cyber security solution (cyber security is more than a firewall or Team Viewer).
So, what do I do? Do I carve out the internet security scope and issue it to someone else?
It may be that BMS companies do have a solution, but the service departments, and the service technicians, generally, do not have a solution. And, it is service departments that tend to deliver BMS upgrades, not their construction departments.
In the past, I have been a little relaxed on this, but I can’t anymore, as I need to issue a design that is compliant with the owner’s cyber security policy (my client).
Are we going to give this away? Like when we did with Energy Management Systems and building analytics? (see ‘We are destroying the BMS industry’ video below, from last year.)

Bryce Anderson
I am an independent Building Management System consultant based in Australia. I started in the BMS industry in 1998 and initially worked for BMS companies for the first 15 years of my career (2 years in South Africa, 9 years in London, and 4 years in Melbourne). In 2014 I transitioned into BMS consulting, saw a massive gap in the lack of specialist BMS consulting, and started Lifecycle Controls in 2017.
My focus is currently on BMS technical training, coaching, and B2B consulting for BMS companies and mechanical consultancies. Because, fixing one project at a time was making no difference. Training thousands of engineers will :-)
